FAQ’s

  • What is Manual Therapy?

Manual Therapy uses precise hands-on techniques to restore mobility in joints, muscles, connective tissues, and organs, aiming to relieve pain and improve function. By identifying restrictions through skilled palpation and correlating them with symptoms, we create a personalized treatment plan often supported by targeted home exercises.

  • How Are We Different?

Our approach includes listening closely to you, taking the time for a careful assessment of your condition, using skilled manual therapy, and applying specific therapeutic exercise. We believe that a thoughtful, specific treatment will achieve the best outcome. A more generic approach may miss important components of the problem. We spend the entire treatment time with you, without any aides or assistants.

  • Where Does Pain Originate?

Pain can originate from joints, muscles, ligaments, nerves, discs, or fascia—often with overlapping patterns that make pinpointing the source complex. Through a careful exam and targeted techniques, we can usually identify the cause of pain and select a treatment that will help. We then adjust the treatment based on how the body responds.

  • Does Stress Cause Pain?

Although stress may contribute to pain, there is usually an underlying biomechanical or biochemical dysfunction that is the primary cause. Physical Therapy can calm down these underlying issues and help reduce stress.

  • What Causes Neck Pain?

Joint inflammation is a common cause of neck pain that we see in our practice. The facet joints in the neck become inflamed, swollen and stiff after trauma, overuse, degenerative changes or postural strain, and cause pain locally and referred into areas of the head, upper back and torso. Another common cause of pain is the muscles of the neck, triggered by trauma, overuse or postural strain. Trigger points in the muscles can also cause local and referred pain. Each of these problems can be helped by manual therapy.

  • What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is pain that radiates from the lower back into the thigh and leg. It may be caused by compression or irritation of a spinal nerve, often due to a herniated disc, arthritis or spinal stenosis. This pain can also be caused by irritation of a joint structure (such as sacro-iliac joint or hip), a muscle (such as gluteus medius or piriformis), or other soft tissue structure (such as the iliolumbar ligament or the sacro-tuberous ligament). These problems can be addressed with manual therapy.

  • Do We Take Insurance?

We are a cash-based practice and do not accept insurance, which allows us to provide highly personalized, one-on-one care without the limitations or delays often associated with insurance reimbursement. This model ensures you receive focused, hands-on treatment tailored to your specific needs at every visit.

  • Do We Treat Adhesions in the Abdomen?

Adhesions can form in the abdomen following a surgery, a trauma or infection. These adhesions glue one structure to another and restrict the normal gliding motion that occurs during digestion, elimination, breathing or active movements. They can cause a feeling of tightness, restriction or pain, or can interfere with digestion, elimination, fertility or other function. Visceral Manipulation is used to break up these adhesions and restore normal functioning.
